Despite gallant efforts, neither Senior team managed to avert a return to their respective Division 2s,but it is doubtful if any bookie would give you decent odds against an immediate move the other way next winter for either. Not arrogance, just plain fact on the current evidence - and Walton will surely follow suit again!
In Richmond Park, there was a fair turnout, with Nicky Atkins leading us home excellently, probably for the first time in a League match. She was 53rd(24.25),narrowly ahead of Avelline(55-24.34). Sadly that was too far down the scoring for us to make any headway against our immediate rivals above us. Debbie Raymond(81-25.39),Barbara Moeller(92-26.35) & Lois Kerrison(113-27.46) closed the A team, with Liz Richardson(124-28.34) & Johanna Gibbons(127-28.45) making their contributions to the B team. There were 155 finishers in Div One with a further 120 or so in Div 2. On the day the A team placed 15th and were 13th A team overall - so we accompany Striders of Croydon & Walton into the lower tier for 2006/7.In the U13,Lucy Clacher continued her good form with 12th/35 in 15.22,with the team closing in 9th overall. Eleanor Cannon led in the U15 squad with a excellent 6th/19,also in 15.22,and Kelly Randall(11-16.15) & sister Linda(12-16.24) completed - the team ended up 3rd on the day and 5th overall, each out of some 15 teams. And,in the U17/U20 race,Maddy Hardwick(10th) & Rhiannon Mehta(11th) saw the team take 3rd and 5th over the season.Well done to all - and we expect you back in Div 1 for 2007/8!!!! Over at Farthing Down,Enes Ongeren made a useful debut as our only youngster, placing 10th overall amongst U13s/U15s & U17s and was 4th U13 in 17.56.In the Senior race we made a good fist of it and actually matched Reigate Priory at 550 pts each - too little, too late, sadly. Mark Reed took pole K&P position this time in 29th(30.17),with Mike Maranzano in the van behind in 43rd(31.03),then Andy Arbour 47th(31.12),Ross Shaddick 53rd(31.32),then two splendid runs from two of our U20s - Alex Thomas 56th-31.44 & Michael Huntley 59th-31.55 - ahead of Ant Budarkiewicz 63rd-32.18.Completing the ten were Andy Lawrence 89th-34.10,Ron Taylor 90th-34.16 & Peter Wilkins 102nd-35.49,the latter's first 'scoring place',it is thought. Thereafter,it was Graeme Horstead 113-37.45,Bob McDonough 117-38.35,David Barrington 128-43.32,Geoff Reed 129-44.15 & Dave Gibbons 130-46.32. There were 133 finishers. Teamwise we were 6th equal on the day and ended up 7th overall, some 172 points short of safety - roll on next winter!!
