The team's 2nd trip to the South Coast was a far sterner test than Worthing and, allied to the inevitable repercussions of a weekend clash with a home NYAL match which left the squad with only 2 U15 athletes,we struggled to come up with a decent score. That Epsom & Ewell, fellow substantial winners in the first round, hit the same problem, was scant consolation. Scores : Brighton 190.5/TVH 170/Walton 169.5/K&P 119.5/E&E 118.5. We are now 12th of 25 in the Table. Full results are posted on the NB at Kingsmeadow.
The Seniors/Vets/U17s were more than a match for the other 4 teams and had the SWL AGM last November voted through the proposal to cut out the U15s,we would have won the fixture. Though your correspondent is not necessarily in favour of that idea,it is becoming more and more clear that there are fewer athletes in the sport and more than enough fixtures to cater for the U15s/U13s without burdening them with "please" from both SWL & NYAL TMs. We shall see come this November's AGM.
The return of Sarah Harris & Claire Stonestreet, plus the rearrival of Liz Patrick at the fold & a first appearance from Chyna Vincent, gave us extra impact and, though we only actually got 3 x 5-pointers,we scored steadily in the older group. Best marks included Sarah Harris' 13.0/26.1 at 100/200,Mary Iheke's 26.3 200,Dominique Blaize's 15.3 100H,Liz Patrick's 11.30 TJ,Camilla Thrush's 37.59 HT & a double U17 hurdles from Roseanne Mackay 13.5/50.4. As ever, the vets - Rachel Disley,Alison Jones & Camilla Thrush - did us proud, though this time the opposition was much tougher. Since we only mustered a miserly 6 points from the U15 group, this must pass without comment.
