Whilst the weather and the match organisation seemed OK,the Men's Report would read - "Could do better".
We fielded just 3 youngsters in the YA race - in the U15/U17 section,Ed Croall took 8th(17.14) & James Williams(11th),whilst,in the U13s,Alistair Woods placed 10th(18.09). One of the frequent clashes with a Tiffins School fixture limited our turnout.
In the Senior race, various 'other commitments' left Bob McDonough pretty frustrated with a meagre 12-man list,so virtually all those on duty contributed to our 5th place team score. It was the pre-match prediction, and there remains only a small margin between the clubs, but a substantial improvement is required from the squad at the 2nd fixture in November.
We did have 4 upfront - Andy Arbour(10th 29.59),Mike Maranzano(11th 30.06),our much improved U20 Ron Taylor(17th 30.47) & Mark Reed(18th 30.51),but we had to wait to the 40s before U20 Michael Huntley's solid run(40th 32.27) & M45 Ant Budarkiewicz's 45th in 32.44.Newcomer Matthew Taylor(U20) provided a highlight in 62nd(33.36),then it was TM Bob McDonough(1st M60) in 87th,another improver Matthew Hyett(90th 35.34) and Graeme Horstead closed the team at 109th(38.07). To complete David Greenfield took 115th(39.42) & Geoff Reed 124th at 41.20.
The plus points were Ron Taylor's best CC run in club colours - there is every likelihood that he will be our No 1 at the next match - plus his namesake Matthew's excellent debut and confirmation that Matthew Hyett is putting himself about in training.
