id500-Surrey Mens CC League D2 M2 Wimbledon Common November 11th 2006 Report

Written by DB

A middle order 'deficiency',rather akin to those of England's Rugby Union & GB's Rugby League teams, not to even mention 'Freddie's' mob downunder, left K&P's men very much mid- to lower-table at the halfway point in this winter's league.

With a fine 4 in 14 - Jamie McCullagh(7th),Andy Arbour(10th),Mike Maranzano(12th) & Ross Shaddick(14th) in a larger than usual field of 160 plus - we were well away but the absence of 4 of our 5 under 20s,plus Ron Taylor running with an injury, swept away the core of our challenge, and we were again scoring substantially in the last 10 of the 90 counters.

The call to arms from Bob did produce 15 starters, three in excess of the home match in October, and was encouraging, but the majority get no younger and we were 7th on the day and are 6th overall. Both the teams who flirted with Division One momentarily in 2005/6,ourselves and Walton, are having a torrid time so far.

Having said that,it is still quite tight and one extra top scorer in each match would have put us towards the top. Promoters Hercules Wimbledon had a field day, winning by almost 200 points and, along with near neighbours, the Windmilers, look favourites for a stint in the top echelon.

James Williams,Ollie Garner & Nikolaj Schubert represented us in the YA races.

Pete Mulholland's results,as ever, were through late Saturday evening and can be viewed on our Results page via the Main Menu above.
