The substantial Senior squad turned in quite the best collective K&P performances of the winter, male or female,on a typically tough Thames H&H course from Roehampton Vale.
Rachel B(perhaps celebrating her heir-apparency to the Club Treasurership - or not) ran a fine race to win the Div 2 fixture(21st overall) in 25.02 and, with our other 4 A team scorers charging in to close the squad at 17th, we took the day's team honours clearly with 47pts,30 ahead of league leaders,Runnymede - this consolidates our 2nd placing with one match to go and, barring disasters, seals our targeted immediate return to Div 1 for 2007/8.
Tearing home in 6th(27.33) was an elated Team Sec,Debbie R,running her best couple of back to back races(Surreys last week) since Jessica & Oliver arrived; just behind was Charlie Sklenar,on a 2nd trip down from East Anglia in 2 weeks,in a fine 9th(27.45);then came Avelline D in 14th(28.33) with Nicky A,much handicapped by losing a shoe very early on,17th(28.55). Such packing was not be beaten!
Lest you think that was all! - no way, since we had 9 in the race. Leading in the B team were two of our German contingent - Barbara Mueller,in her first race for a while, was 31st(31.13) and debuting Susanna Dietrich took 34th(31.37),followed by VERY recent mum,Liz Richardson 50th (33.09) and Johanna Gibbons well up in 55th(33.34) - 94 finished in Div 2.
School races left us very short again in the younger races but the ever-redoubtable Lucy Clacher was an excellent 11th in the U13 event(15.07) and there was a welcome first winter appearance from Eleanor Pickston in 42nd(17.56).
Good on yer,Sheilas.
Full relevant results, courtesy of TH&H, are on our Results file.
Please note - there have been some very minor late amendments to the Senior result, but they have not materially affected the overall team placings - Avelline was 15th/Nicky 18th/Barbara 32nd/Susanna 35th/Liz 52nd/Johanna 57th. Match score was K&P 49,Runnymede 81 etc which means we are 65 pts behind in 2nd place overall - and still well on target.
