The most important match this week is on Saturday,March 31st when Jessica and Mike Maranzano walk up the aisle! Have a fine future both!
On day 1(3rd) of the Surrey Indoor Champs at Sutton Arena,3 younger members of our BAL Mens 'squad' gave notice of their intentions for the summer. Chris Hall ran 7.26/7.3m/7.26,taking 5th in the U20 Final and then getting bronze at LJ(6.14) & gold at TJ(12.43);Matthew Field looked in good form over the U20 60 Hurdles, narrowly missing the gold by 6/100ths in 8.46;whilst Ist year U17 Gordon Lester made yet another significant Vault advance, clearing 3.80 to win the U17 title. Elsewhere,Chuck's sprinters were in action - Maris Kuklis 7.57/Jason Bernard 7.66/Alex Hatherley 7.77.
Day 2(4th) K&P highlights included delight for 2 more of Maurice Joyce's vaulters - U17 Lauren Horner(2nd 2.50) & U13 Claudia Noakes(2.30 for 2nd in the U15s,in her first ever competition).Early starter was Kyle Stevens who rather too easily won the SM SP at 14.59;Neal Renfer did 5.41 for 7th in the U17 LJ;Harriet Lester took the U17W 60H(9.17pb) with Lucy Jones 3rd(9.65pb);Tom Parry(an ESAA selection last summer) headed the U17M 60H in his first race in a K&P vest(also 9.17) with Gordon Lester grabbing a bronze;Patrick Hillyer took 3rd in the U17M TJ with another pb at 11.96 which Roseanne Mackay copycatted in the U17W event also with a pb(10.22),from miles behind the board. Keith Burchell has the full results on the Surrey site - www.surreyathletics.org.uk
At the BPTT(3rd),James Williams(23.19),Alistair Orr(25.08) & John Atkins(30.42) were in the large field. Full results at www.bptt.org.uk
At Lee Valley,at the BMAF Champs(3rd/4th),Joan Trimble took the honours with two delightful W50 bronzes at 60/200(9.31/31.58);Pat Logan, more expectedly, won the M45 60 and took silver at 200;and Camilla Thrush,as ever, was a triple winner in the W35 SP/DT/WT( I think the discus was OUTSIDE!).Mike May & Chuck Isetts were also on the boards. Just 4 souls braved the last Senior CC race of the winter at Thames H&H Inter Club - Peter Wilkins,a welcome returnee, led us home in 30th;Graham Huntley 33rd,Nicky Atkins 39th & Geoff Reed 46th completed our 4-strong team. Full result on www.thameshareandhounds.org.uk

Ant Budarkiewicz was our only representative at Sunderland for the National CC Champs and,as an M45,he can be exceedingly pleased with his 376th placing(47.30) in the Senior field of just under 1000.
Our 3 eventual performers at the BUSAs in Sheffield will perhaps have been a little disappointed - returning from injury,James Heptonstall(Birmingham) qualified with 6.48 to make the Long Jump final but had to settle for 18th in the final with 6.50;Humphrey Waddington(Cambridge) was unable to compete in that same event;Frank Hutton-Williams(Cambridge) did run an indoor pb of 52.59,but that was not enough to progress;and Dominique Blaize(Brunel) made the 60H final and ran a pb 8.73 for 5th(pleasing) but her 1.65 HJ(4th) & 11.70 SP(7th) would be less so,though they were in progress concurrently, which dont help much! A snappy 24.4 relay leg surely concluded her weekend on a high. Full results at www.busa.org.uk
On the road(11th),Dina Francis & Johanna Gibbons ran in together at 312th/313th in 50.18 in the Wimbledon Audi 10k.

Pat Logan was a medalist again in Helsinki, the venue for the 2007 European Vets Indoor Champs(Mar 22-25). This time it was bronze over 60m(M45),but the winner was just 2/100ths ahead and Pat lost the silver on the photo - 7.37 to 7.39 to 7.39. He also reached the 200m Final(after 24.84ht/24.42sf),but was just out of the medals in 4th(24.51). Chuck Isetts(M60) ran 8.56/28.59 & Mike May(M45) 8.55/27.62,but neither were able to progress. However,Pat collected a gold in the Relay, whilst Chuck won bronze, with Mike first reserve for the winning M45 squad.
