A 50% turnout improvement, though expected for a home fixture, produced a fillip for all,not least the TMs and, though we still could not match an astonishly-revitalised St Marys Richmond squad,we scored well to take 2nd place(615pts - to 382 at Watford) - we are now joint 2nd at the halfway stage of the campaign, though light on match points to Oxford.
Of the few U13 Girls, the return of Claudia Noakes boosted the group, with Minty Allen & Philippa Allcock improving.
At U15G,Victoria Douglas & Emily McIlwain were prominent, with the latter PB-ing to win the HJ(1.50);Claudia Poulter took the 75H(13.1),with Lucy Clacher completing a hurdles double;Sophie Peel looks a promising sprinter and Stephanie Espinosa again ran confidently over 1500.
The established U17W again produced the goods;Harriet Lester(12.1) & Lucy Jones(PB 12.8) excelled at 80H;the former with Roseanne Mackay took both LJs;Natalie Ellis won probably her first HT comp;and Miss Mackay, sadly shortly to leave the area, won the Triple(10.06) to take the Girls' Field Event Athlete of the Match.
At U13 Boys,Aidan Fahey & David Fitzpatrick again showed good form, though here again we look likely to lose the latter to Fulham FC.
The U15 Boys were not exactly mob-handed,but welcomed the return of George Wilkins;Matt Francis impressed with a 12.1 100 plus a decent SP;and Ollie Garner & Nikolay Schubert worked hard and well,as always.
The U17 group was thin on competition but there continues to be promise for the future - Richard Smeaton won over 400 in a PB 54.0, & mixed it with Jake Budd(12.1 100) over 200 24.8 to 24.6;Adam Wicks's progress at hurdles caught the eye with a 15.7/65.5 double;and Gordon Lester(already a senior BAL selection) put himself about, deservedly collecting the Boys' Field Event Award, with his winning 3.60 PV. Good to see reps over 1500 with Ciaran Costello & Jonny Miller looking good.
