Our six Surrey selections for the Under 17 InterCounty at Copthall(5th) acquitted themselves well, though the wind appears to have been a dominant factor, not least in the sprints where adverse readings towards 4mps against were recorded. Of the Women,Roseanne Mackay's 2nd Club U17 Triple Jump record at 10.81(3A) stood out,as did Mary Iheke's 25.6 200(2A) and 300A victory in 40.2. Harriet Lester was 6th in her 80Hdls(13.5) and also grabbed 3rd in the LJB at 4.82. Of the Men,Tom Parry ran 14.9(4A) into a 3.9 headwind;Gordon Lester was 3A in the vault(3.60) and William Trimble placed 6A in the Javelin(46.95). As the summer league season ekes out its last burning embers, the search for individual competition, either representative(if lucky) or open meetings, lights up - At Bedford(5th),despite his strenuous exertions in the cause at the Derby BAL the day afore,James Heptonstall reached 6.64 in a AAA LJ comp; at Woking(8th),Dominique Blaize clocked 25.10(2nd) over 200 in a mixed M&W race,Liz Richardson took her 2007 best for 800 down to 2.52.19 and U13 Matthew Broderick equalled his 2007 bests at 100 & Long Jump;at Watford(8th),Daniel Campbell won his 100(12.06) but managed to choose the race that evening with the most adverse wind(-2.5).

Keep those reports coming in to DB - Open meets are the least well-reported in the Press.

At the U15/U20 Inter County at Copthall(26th),Chris Hall (U20) took 6th in the LJ (6.29),with Emily McIlwain 7th in the U15G HJ at 1.50.

In Woerden in the Netherlands,Dominique Blaize returned to multi-events competition,placing 12th in her Heptathlon with 5033 pts(100H 14.60/HJ 1.76/SP 11.95/200 24.77/LJ 5.75/JT 35.02PB(she could sell that to Kelly!)/800 slowish. A fine return after 2 months lay-off,with that 800 still offering no favours.
