Reports

M60 Mike Garner eclipsed his BPTT PB on New Year's Day with 23.24,just ahead of Francesca Currie at 23.53.

Early starters in the Jan 5th TTs were Francesca Currie in Bushy Park(133rd 24.06) whilst Rachel Burbridge(3rd 20.19) & Debbie Raymond(15th 22.30) made useful debuts in the Banstead Woods version.

Later in the day at glorious, but cold,Lloyd Park,Croydon it was left to our Veteran Women to wave the flag. In the Senior Surrey County Champs race,Avelline Deighton(45th 42.02),Nicky Atkins(54th 43.52) & Susanne Dietrich(58th 45.27) were the only runners from 10 championship races wearing K&P colours. There were no K&P males on view in our vests but 6 members ran for Tiffins Boys teams - in the U13 race,Matthew Broderick was 47th & Nikolay Schubert 72nd;in the U17M,Ciaran Costello 30th,Patrick Tebble 31st & Jonny Miller 33rd just missed out on bronze team awards on the position of their last scorer;whilst Tim Sagar(15th) did lead his U20 trio to bronze. Don't know about flag-waving;best to draw a veil over the whole proceedings. Hope for better in the Leagues next Saturday. Full results - www.surreyathletics.org.uk - where you will see AFD had a dream day with 8 individual titles from 10,but this will likely change as at least one training group switches to WSEH.

However, the K&P redeemer liveth,as he has done for more years than he cares to recall, with 48yo Ant Budarkiewicz running into 47th(49.43) in the Middlesex Senior Champs at an old Poly stomping ground,Trent Park,Cockfosters.

At a very congested,and much delayed,Open Indoor at Eton(6th),Chris Hall ran 7.37 over 60m and long-jumped 6.09,leaving early - or late,rather!

A time of 23.54 at the BPTT(12th) gave Francesca Currie 162nd placing.

Down at UWIC,Cardiff(12th),both William van Klaveren(U13 60 8.81) & Tom Parry(U17M 60H 8.89) won silver medals at the Welsh Junior Indoor Champs.

Molly Renfer(U15)(13th) was again the K&P star of the 3rd and final County Sportshall Comps at The Spectrum - she was leading points scorer again,a position unchallenged over the 3 fixtures and an achievement which will see her lead the County squad at the Regionals(and this after a fine race at the Surrey League CC at Reigate the day before). Top Ten scorers also included Sophie Peel(U15) and U13 Elliott Fraser and U15 Frank Johnson. The K&P teams were 6th & 11th(U13B),6th & 16th(U13G),3rd at U15B and 4th at U15G. Fuller results on the Surrey site - www.surreyathletics.org.uk

Nicky Atkins contested the VAC Champs(19th),taking the VW40 silver in 45.31 over their challenging Wimbledon Common course.

K&P youngsters were in action at the Surrey Schools Champs at Reigate(19th) where places for the County team for the English Schools and for the forthcoming Inter County fixtures were up for grabs.

As predicted here,Molly Renfer continued her purple patch,on whatever surface she chooses,by surging into a splendid 6th place in the Inter Girls race, almost certainly clinching her selection for Surrey for the English Schools. In the same race, our other prolific racer,Francesca Currie(Merton) took a useful 35th. In the concurrent Senior Girls event,Isobel Penney was 15th,whilst in the U13 Girls,Merton reps Celia Wright & Issy Foster were 43rd & 44th.

On the male side,Matthew Broderick was 34th in the U13 event;Patrick Corcoran ran into 40th & Nikolay Schubert 74th in the Junior Boys;Tim Sagar made 15th in the Senior;but probably the best K&P male effort came in the Inter Boys from George Corcoran in 20th,with Ciaran Costello 27th,Patrick Tebble 42nd & Jonny Miller 55th

Full results(with the occasional error in declarations) can be found on the Surrey Schools site at www.ssaa.org.uk

Saturday 19th also featured Day One of the Southern Indoor Champs at Lee Valley;and Gordon Lester led the K&P way with a Golden performance in the U17 Mens PV,taking the title at 3m70,virtue of a first time clearance at that height. In the U20 Womens 60,Mary Iheke showed fine turns of speed, qualifying for the SFs with 8.16,clocking a PB 8.04 to make the Final and taking 6th there with 8.08.Over at the U17 Mens 60H,Tom Parry, fresh from a silver in Wales last weekend, ran a PB 8.83 to qualify for the Final in which he was 6th(8.8manual).Liz Davidson managed 10.89 for 9th in the SW TJ,but struggled with 2 early NJs.

Day Two(20th) at the Southern Indoors at Lee Valley;and it was PV again which featured on the K&P radar with Claudia Noakes clearing a fine PB 2.50 AND grabbing an U15G bronze. Adam Bellis would have been reasonably pleased with a 51.22 ht over SM400m,then a 51.19 in the SFs. Mary Iheke qualified easily in the U20W200(25.94) but a 5th race in 2 days probably caught her out in the final where she took 5th(26.23). In the U15G LJ,Victoria Douglas was an useful 9th at 4m44,whilst Roseanne Mackay took 10th in the U20W TJ with 10m58.

Rachel Burbridge improved her Banstead Woods TT(26th) best by 35 secs with 12th(19.44) as a warm-up for the Clubs Champs in Richmond Park later in the day(see separate report) and probably played hockey in the evening, too!(no,actually I jest, she didn't). In the BPTT,Tim Atkins made a welcome reappearance(26.56),whilst mum Nicky(W40) couldn't resist the resplendent course offered by Parliament Hill Fields, placing 209th in the Southern Womens Senior Champs(45.46). Ant Budarkiewicz(M45) was our other solo artist,in the Senior Mens, finishing 291st in 61.14.

Another foray into the Principality by our Taff contingent gleaned more Welsh Indoor Champs medals;following those from Tom Parry & William van Klaveren, this time it was the Senior Champs - David Cook comfortably took the Long Jump gold with a fine indoor PB of 7.09,whilst Chris Hall ran snappily over 200,taking the silver in 23.30(23.71ht). The LJ was,our on-the-spot correspondent reports, something of a 'no-jump fest' for Chris and David with only 3 valid marks out of 12!! Good job there was no TM there to commit hara-kiri.

On 20th,at WNAC's Keith Ward Indoor Meet at Kings Lynn,Roseanne Mackay reached out to a PB TJ 10m93 and also won the U20 60 in 8.4.

At the Brunel University Speed/Jumps series(26th for Sprints & 27th for Jumps),Dominique Blaize won the SW HJ at 1.75,Gordon Lester set a PB winning the U17M PV at 3.90,Patrick Hillyer took 2nd/5th in the U17M TJ/LJ(11.70/5.51),Liz Davidson was 4th in the SW TJ(11.06) and the resident Miss Blaize placed 5th in the SW 60mF(7.72) after 2nd in her heat at 7.71.
