On a night of counter-attractions,there was, nevertheless,a reasonable turnout all round, though officials were again thin on the ground - one doubts it in some quarters, but one trusts the competitors actually appreciate what they get for free from all voluntary helpers! Mike's Men were augmented for the first time this summer by Allan Leiper(AFD 1st-claimer) who took the M40 Shot(12.09) and by Phil Naldrett & David Greenfield at 5000. Our top M60 of the moment Chuck Isetts continued in his fine vein of form with a narrow 100M50 win and put forward a strong case for a slot in the British M60 4 x 400 at the forthcoming Europeans Champs in Aarhus by taking the M50 400 in 64.9. Also over 400,Cashel Riordan 62.6 ran one of his best recent races and was in touch with the more than useful Graham Pope & Terry Bissett. At PV,Maurice cleared 2.60 to rank behind only our 2 BAL performers in the K&P lists. On the distaff side,Nicki Murphy, surely someone who would have been a class senior had she competed then, took the 400 in 66.5,Gunhild Vogel(PV 1.90),Rachel Disley(4.57.5 1500) & Camilla Thrush(JT 26.64) all set Club Vets records, with the former also winning the Triple Jump(8.74).Both teams improved, the men to a narrow 3rd which leaves them 3rd overall with one match to go and the women took 2nd and are also 3rd overall. Men-E&E 150,Croydon 126,K&P 122 etc and overall E&E 24,Croydon 20,K&P 17,Crawley 14 etc- Women-E&E 124,K&P 81,Croydon 78 etc and overall E&E 24,Croydon 20,K&P 18,DMV 16 etc
