id714-SWL Senior D1 M1 Bromley April 26th 2008 Report

Written by DB

A spirited and committed Southern Womens team opened their account with a very heartening 2nd place at Norman Park

Some useful field results as the meeting closed, together with a relays double, enabled K&P to sneak past the home club,Blackheath & Bromley, into 2nd place at the death;a lack of runners at 1500/3000,though,left us a few points adrift of winners,Marshall Milton Keynes.

A fine, warm day was encouraging for the athletes, not least Dominique Blaize, ahead of next week's BUSA Champs. Clearly a class above her opponents for the most part, she took the 100H(16.9),LJ(5.91) & Shot(12.76- a new PB and an improvment on her Club Record by 4cms) and contributed to both relay successes, notably a 61.3 400m leg. In terms of achievement, not far behind was U17 Molly Renfer, making her 1st senior appearance and not afraid to take the race to her opposition, narrowly losing out in the 800 but clocking a PB 2.26.7 and then anchoring the 4x4 with 64.1. Returning after a couple of years,Lana Whatley showed assured form with a 64.4/71.4 over 400 and Mary Iheke,Anna Schlerf(65.4 400 pb), & Rachel Burbridge (at her 2nd fixture of the day) garnered their share of points.

Elsewhere in the field,Liz Davidson(11.70 - best for some seasons) & Sash Gordon(10.80) won both TJ strings;Camilla Thrush completed her customary treble, with Chyna Vincent & Anna Schlerf collecting valuable scores in the Vault & Flo Penfold and Mary Waddington foraging well in the throws.
