A soggy night in Kingston Town

Mike May & Nicky Atkins attracted a goodly competitive crowd of K&P vets(24,in fact) to the first League fixture of 2008,though it was our 9 ladies who mixed it the better,nearly toppling our bete noir,Epsom & Ewell.

Nicki Murphy(5 events) & Susanne Dietrich(4) were busiest,and the latter markedly improved,with a host of 1sts/2nds;Joan Trimble,Gill Broderick & Camilla Thrush(2) also claimed maximums,and with Rachel Disley,Debbie Singleton,Fionuala Renfer & Mary Waddington,the team were just edged out of 1st place on the night(122 to 116).

The men,however,could not afford to be short of personnel in the distance events,in particular,and although we dominated the sprints again,we just salvaged 3rd place from Striders of Croydon,but some way adrift of Croydon & E&E. Our President,Pat Logan,and Draco Mkpa were a class above the opposition,and with TM Mike May and M50 David Curzon easily annexed the 4x1 in a nippy 50.1. Elsewhere,we were short of outright wins but Andy Arbour,Rob Lowe,Graham Huntley,Frank Schubert,John Simmons & Jack Rutherford accumulated 2nd places and with Cashel Riordan,Maurice Joyce,Bob McDonough & Robin Shaw garnering here and there,we proved there is life after 40(sorry! after 35) in the club! It was good to see newcomer,David Peel,improving his 100 time by 4/10ths to 14.3.
