The first major domestic Championships of each season are a chance to make some substantial inroads into the year's outdoor UK Ranking Lists and, accompanied by some clement weather though with Bedford's inevitable wind at times, the fixture lived up to its reputation - and K&P's representatives were right in there!
Opening day - Pride of place went to Dominique Blaize(Brunel) who equalled her HJ PB of 1.80,sharing a silver on countback;in the Mens events, David Cook(Exeter) took the Long Jump bronze with a fine PB(7.28);not to be outdone,Humphrey Waddington(Cambridge) reached out to a 6.93PB in the qualifying and placed 8F(6.79);Chris Hall(Royal Holloway) 6.39 & Matt Field(Brunel) 6.04 also competed;over 100,Chris Hall ran 11.76q whilst HCAs Maris Kuklis(Bournemouth)(55.3 400/59.84 400H) & Tom Beedell(LSE)(8ht 5k 15.32.28) were our other affiliates.
Day Two - All our athletes in action qualified for their Finals - Dominique won her 100H heat in a PB 14.29;David Cook(22.95) & Chris Hall(22.60) both reached the 200 SFs;Matt Field clocked a PB 15.75 in his 110H heat;Humphrey Waddington grabbed a whopping TJ PB of 14.38;and Felix Hatton(Sheffield) was out to a comfortable 65.17 to make Monday's Javelin.
Day Three - More PBs,and consoling good early season marks otherwise -- Top Dog was probably Felix Hatton, who eclipsed that elusive 70m barrier for the first time to raise his PB,the Club Record and the County Record to a splendid 70.99,though 3 others threw further(just) to rob him of a medal;Dominique B won the SP bronze at 12.02,though was distracted by the concurrent 100H final in which she was 7th(14.66) but was later consoled by helping Brunel's 4 x 100 quartet to the Gold; Matt Field took another 3/100ths off his 110H best(15.72) in the Final; David Cook(22.58) & Chris Hall(22.74) found the 200 SFs a tad quick;but Humphrey Waddington achieved another TJ PB(14.42) for 7th in his Final.
