On a very warm day at Kingsmeadow, and at the first of the two concluding home fixtures to complete their season, the SWL team placed 2nd for the 3rd time in 4 outings;there were several PBs/SBs,but this was probably a missed opportunity to amass enough points to steer clear of relegation.A higher return at the last match on 30th August should see them stay in Senior Division One,but it will go down to the wire as there will be between 4 and 6 teams moving between One & Two,depending on UKWL relegation and how many more teams opt for Seniors Only competition in 2009.
Scores - Pompey 118.5/K&P 74/Peterboro 64.5/Hillingdon 54.
Table below - we meet Nene V,Epsom & Bexley in the last match.

There was much to enthuse over - Emily McIlwain(HJ) sailed over 1.60 to equal her 2008 PB standard,as well as winnning the B 100(13.9) and fellow U17,Pippa Wingate,on her SWL debut, grabbed 2 club PBs,winning the B SP(7.94) and reaching out to 14.67 in her less-favourite Javelin. Of the 3 Under 20s in action,Natalie Sacre ran another PB 3000 in 13.47.4 and regulars Harriet Lester, seriously back after 3 months out,and Mary Iheke performed commitedly,as ever - both turn out in the NJL for B&B the next day.
Into the seniors,Lana Whatley won the 400H in a PB 69.4,with Dominique Blaize taking the B string and the Long Jump easily.Rachel Burbridge was happily back into the groove over 1500/3000. Camilla Thrush(V35) led by example in the throws again, collecting 3 firsts, but, almost as important, encouraged fellow V35 Odette Butson to 2 SBs(21.97DT/29.54HT),whilst Susanne Dietrich(V40),making her SWL debut in answer to anguished pleas, contributed admirably to the 200/400/800 - and this in a likely PB of 2.55.4 - as well as ensuring, with Mary,Emily & Harriet, that we could grab 2nd in the 4 x 100.
