All three of our Masters have made their respective 200 Finals in Slovenia - Draco Mkpa ran 4th in his SF in 23.05,and he could go under 23secs in that Final;indeed,he will have to,as all the other 7 finalists did so! Pat Logan was 3rd in his SF(23.78 =SB) and Chuck Isetts was 2nd in his(28.70 =SB). And news from the 200 Finals - Pat grabbed the M45 bronze in a season's best of 23.58;M35 Draco ran in 6th,also in a 2008 best of 23.00,not very much adrift of his all-time PB;and Chuck was out of the M60 medals in 8th(29.16).HCA Howard Moscrop added a 100H bronze & a 4x4 Gold in his M50 group to his 400H gold. All three of our sprinter warriors medalled in their relays - Pat L. won gold in the M45 4 x 100,Draco M took silver in the M35 4 x 100 & M65 Chuck grabbed two,silver in the 4x4 & bronze in the 4x1.
Our eventual sole competitor at the Under 17 Inter County at Basildon(3rd),Tom Parry,was a comfortable winner of the 100 Hurdles B string for Surrey in 14.04.
On a balmy VAC Twickenham evening(6th),Mike May took good advantage to clock a couple of his best M45 times over 100/200(13.2/26.9);Nicky Atkins(W40) was pleased with her 12.20.5 3k;Rob Lowe(M40) improved his 2008 2k DT mark to 23.03;and Roger Bartlett(M65) made what he intends to be his sole 2008 outing,with a 9.91 SP(5k) & 27.51 DT(1k).
At Woking(6th),Craig Price reports a 56.2 400 as part of his careful return,hopefully, to BAL level competition in 2009,whilst Jason Bernard ran 11.5 & 23.14.
Humphrey Waddington,though not 100% fit,was delighted to receive,and accept,an invite to the UK Challenge Final at Eton(9th);the more so since he seems to have acquired a small remuneration for his troubles and his 14m12 jump!
Camilla Thrush(HT 38.60/DT 31.83sb.WT 12.30sb) & Odette Butson(DT 22.15pb) were in action at a SECTA Throws Triathlon at Ewell(9th),whilst the Sunday saw them out again representing Surrey,as Seniors, at the Senior Inter County(10th) at Kingsmeadow(pb Hammer for Odette 29.71).
Also in the distinctive yellow County vest were Dominique Blaize(14.33 2A 100H/5.88 1A LJ) and Liz Davidson(11.83 3A TJ) for the Women,& Matt Field(4A 110H 15.39),Kyle Stevens(1B SP 15.03),Maris Kuklis(1B 400H 58.84) & David Cook for the Men - with the latter ended his season with a superb legal last round winning 7.43 LJ,elevating(a current naff UKA buzz word!!) him to 12th on this year's UK Rankings.
Meanwhile,at Birmingham(10th),Tom Parry excelled in making the EA U17 National 100H final(13.72 3ht/13.99 7F) and,on the same day,Pat Logan(M45) was a late call-up for the SCVAC team at the InterArea Masters/Vets match at Hemel Hempstead,taking 2nd in the M35 200(25.4).
Back on the 9th,Jason Bernard picked a foul afternoon at the LICC at Parliament Hill,running some way out of his recent form over 100/200.
Rachel Burbridge,however,continued her recent run of good form at the Banstead Woods TT(16th),finishng 16th overall in 19m41,and,a week later,she improved 19.28 in 21st.
Ten K&P members took advantage of the last of the 3 HHH Opens at Tooting(23rd) - an entry of 120 runners in the 100 made for a lengthy meeting!! Over 100/200/400,results included Adam Bellis 11.56/23.08/51.00;Jason Bernard 11.57/22.77pb;U17 Tom Parry 11.68pb/23.85pb;U17 Jake Budd 11.94 and Jamie McCullagh 50.85;there was a fine pb by U15 Gaby Miles over 800(2.29.50) with fellow U15 Claudia Noakes clocking 3.02.82.Over the hurdles,Matt Field ran 15.33,his best legal time and U17 Adam Wicks 15.10. In the field,Bilen Ahmet claimed a 1.75/3.45sb double at HJ.PV; Matt Field landed a 32.81 pb/win in the Discus,with U17 Adam Wicks reaching 26.41 and Claudia Noakes vaulted 2.60. This concluded the summer activities of some,but all-rounders Matt Field,Claudia Noakes,Adam Wicks & Bilen Ahmet set out their stall for forthcoming Multi-Events Comps in September.
Jason Bernard continued his track-trawling with a 23.0 200 at Finsbury Park(24th);oop a'Doncie(that's Up at Doncaster in English),Felix Hatton salvaged something from a devastating summer by clocking 11.5 over 100(24th);at Copthall,Lucy Clacher,running for Surrey,ran 13.19 over 75H in the Inter County U15 match;whilst,at the Tom Lintern Open at Crawley(25th),Claudia Noakes threw a winning 7.32 for a SP pb,adding another 1st at LJ(4.41),together with a 2.56.6 800 and a 1.30 HJ. Brother Joe(U11) long-jumped 3.19 and ran 2.11.6 over 600.
At Kingsmeadow(24th),the VAC Champs,whilst being a pleasant,uncontroversial meeting,seemed all a trifle post-prandial. In the sprints,Our President clocked 11.95/24.92;Chuck Isetts got 14.45;Cashel Riordan claimed a 32.11 & Joan Trimble ran 14.68/30.39. Nicky Atkins was given 21.40.65 over 5000,and in the throws Rob Lowe managed 8.11sb/20.76/17.28/25.49.
