K&P Young Athletes November Newsletter
In October we have welcomed a large number of new members into the junior training groups, and they have already made their impact in the first winter competitions alongside the more experienced athletes.
Surrey cross country relays
The winter season opened 4 October with the Surrey Cross Country Relays in Stoke Park, Guildford. For the first time in quite some years, we sent teams in all age groups into the races, and our runners did very well indeed. A number of athletes were placed in the top 20 or even top 10 of their age group.
Surrey League
While the Surrey League predominantly features senior athletes, a number of our young runners have taken part in the junior races on 11 October and 8 November with remarkable success.
Downs League
At the first match on 9 November, our athletes demonstrated their intention to defend the Downs League title with a clear win in the U13s age group. The excellent performance was matched by a win for the U15s, and 2nd place in a massive field for the U11s, making Kingston & Poly the top club for team performance.
Sports Hall
For those less inclined to brave the elements outdoors, the Surrey Sports Hall series provides an opportunity to still compete over the winter. Good turnout and performances, not least from our new members, combined to make Kingston & Poly the most succesful club at the first match on 26 October. The U13 Boys team won the competion, the U15 Boys came 2nd, the U15 Girls achieved 3rd place, and the U13 Girls were 4th. A number of athletes scored among the top ten performers, opening the chance to be selected for the Surrey county squad.
Jack Petchey Award
The winner of the October Award was Tom Parry for his many superb results in junior and senior competitions over 100m Hurdles and 400m Hurdles during the summer season.
Please send nominations for the November Award to [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ](mailto:

Upcoming events
The extra training sessions for runners will continue throughout the season. Meet us every Sunday at 2pm Kingston Gate car park, Richmond Park.
The next competitions before Christmas will be the Kingston Schools CC championships 27 Nov (for participating primary/secondary schools), and the second matches for Sportshall (30 Nov) and Downs League (7 Dec) where we aim to build on the successes of the first matches.
We are one of the biggest and friendliest athletics clubs in London and compete across a huge array of leagues, events and championships and have athletes of literally all standards and ages and across all events.
Whether you are an 8 year old novice, a senior international or a “more mature” athlete looking to get back into the sport – we can help you achieve your goals.
We cater for runners, jumpers, throwers and multi-eventers on the track, in the field, on the roads or over the country and are based at Kingsmeadow in Kingston-upon-Thames (KT1 3PB). We'll be very happy to help you with your sport – so please just get in touch and we'll do all we can to assist.
