A strong turnout from other clubs combined our Club championships over the 7 mile distance with a four way inter club event. A turnout of 33 felt the effects of the first really wintry conditions we’ve had so far this season. Besides Thames Hare & Hounds, Hercules Wimbledon and Bank of England it was good to welcome back members of the Milocarians club from Sandhurst, at whose venue many of us had regularly enjoyed memorable hospitality (and a testing course) in past years.
Milos’ Chris Daniels was the first man home in 39.10, with 3rd placed Andy Arbour retaining the David Pool Trophy as Club champion.Matt Hyett maintained his impressive form in 7th, pushed all the way by the perennial Ant Budarkiewicz. It was good to have the much-improved Maddy Hardwick (U20W and 1st lady) and new members Ramon Benitez and Marcus Boettger in action again together with U20 Aljosa Isakovic, and James Greenfield was persuaded by his father David to join him for a belt round the park. In the Vets handicap competition Ant retained the Pat Wilks trophy, with Graham Huntley and David Greenfield in silver and bronze positions respectively. Peter Wilkins, Rupert Bole, and Geoff Reed made up the K&P contingent of 13, with Cashel Riordan in customary accompanying role, all assisting in a rare defeat of Thames in a 5 to score, and in besting Hercules in 8 to score.
Thanks indeed to officials out on the course and at the finish – David Dyer, Doris, Mary (despite being virtually incapacitated with back pain), Peter, Brenda, Maurice, Mike May and our President Pat Logan.
