A record turnout of Kingston Schools and runners surely has to be seen as tell–tale sign for Cross Country running being on the up in the Borough. This is good news for athletics, but is even sweeter when our K&P athletes do well - and they did.

Secondary Schools/ girls

Laura Cook, secured herself a very nice fourth place in the girls’ year seven race, despite the fact that the next runner tried seriously to box her out of the race. Jessica Lavender ran albeit injured and came 43rd out of 72 runners altogether.

Four top twenty performances were the highlight of the junior girls’ (year 8 and 9) race, with Helen Davies 9th, Minty Allen 13th, Domenika Wrobel 17th and Cathy Hensman, so far only know as thrower and jumper, 18th place. They were closely followed by Sophie Fisher-Norton (22nd), sprinter Holly Courtney (32nd) and Alex Bartle (48th), who also suffered a blow to the stomach from an athlete confusing XC running with a rugby match. 90 runners participated.

Possibly the best results for the girls was a comprehensive win of the inters’ (year 10 and 11) race for Molly Renfer, with Jessica Tomlinson 8th, Sam Keay 10th and Sophie Peters 30th out of 50. And a well-known sprinter under the name of Harriet Lester secured herself a 7th place in the seniors’ race – very well done girls.

Secondary Schools/ boys

In the year 7 boy’s race, Tom Field, one of our top U13 sprinters, represented the club. He showed that he also has stamina and came 50th out of 75 in the year seven boy’s race.

For the junior boys, Patrick Corcoran and David Fitzpatrick battled it out for silver and gold, with Patrick this time having the upper hand. A very nice run brought Sam Vasall to 14th place, followed by Nikolaj Schubert (30th), Hussain Zarei (31st), Nathan Judson-Richardson (37th), Ed Rumbold (45th), Tom Dawson (73rd), Stefan Clarke (79th) and Adam Curran (97th). 124 athletes participated.

Another fine win for the club followed when Patrick’s brother George Corcoran took the inters’ title, with sprinter Sanford Brown coming 12th. Finally, Ciaran Costello took bronze in the senior’s race, with Jonny Miller 11th. Well done also to the boys!

Primary Schools: Results now available

While we did not have any club runners in the girls’ race, five of our U11 participated in the boy’s competition. Here, we had three more top 20 performances, with Harry Robinson coming 9th, Nick Rilett 15th, Oliver Phelps 16th, Rory Vasall 26th and William Dawson 29th of 53 runners. All of our athletes kept the run under 12 minutes; excellent!
