Herewith Bob McDonough's succinct summation - or,as Teacher would say - "Could do better!"
Well! Despite best efforts from all fourteen concerned at Lightwater, and expectations to build on our mid table placing, this was just too precarious to hold onto - and there's no disguising that we finished last. A very useful five in the top 61 was simply not enough to offset the subsequent placings, however hard fought. Mike Maranzano and Andy Arbour (seconds apart in 16th and 17th - 30.20/30.23) were followed by Ant Budarkiewicz(32.12), Michael Huntley(32.32) and new member to the squad Jon Cook (months away from turning V50 - and father of Rachel & Laura) running a blinder in 32.58 - we certainly look forward to your presence in the team for the final match, Jon. Matt Hyett(35.16) did well to get round at all, struggling as he was with a nagging achilles injury. Chris Morris and Steve Wright had a real ding dong with one second between them(35.41/35.42), Bob(37.45) and David Greenfield(38.47) completed the scoring ten, with Graham Huntley, Graeme Horstead, Geoff Reed and David Barrington pounding the iron hard course in valiant back up. Ramon's absence with an arm injury was sorely felt, as was the unavailability of several other regulars. This result leaves us a mere 17 points away from 8th place overall, i.e. relegation zone.
On a brighter note in the YA's race Sam Vassall was our sole rep and followed up his splendid Surrey champs 17th placing with another committed run to finish 3rd in the U13's. Well done Sam.
