Bob's Finale - This is Bob's last contribution to the Club as Men's Cross Country & Road Secretary after over 18 years in that office. Promotion to Surrey League One was one of the highlights of his tenure, but there have been many and I am sure you join the website management in offering a million thanks from K&P and a more than well-deserved retirement. Thanks a million,Bob.
Well it was make or break and tight as you like, balanced on a knife edge and any other old cliché you can think of. Massive assistance from HCA’s Jud Hough and Richard Mathie scoring 4 and 12, with stalwarts Mike Maranzano, Ant Budarkiewicz and Matt Hyett in 15, 20 and 39 all managed at the sharp end to give us 5th on the day and bankroll us out of relegation trouble. As did Steve Wright in 69 and very good form indeed, together with Tony Macdowall (73) making an impressive return debut to competitive action with us after some years. Michael Huntley had some guts to run at all despite being considerably under the weather, this has been the spirit which has made the difference. Ray Allen next in maintaining good progress and then Ron Taylor to complete the scoring - also to be applauded for his frantic dash to the Park from a late-running work meeting causing a late start. Backing up were David Greenfield, Graham Huntley, Peter Wilkins and yours truly. Out on the course supporting and keeping track of progress were Nicky Atkins and David Barrington, and Cashel Riordan our team photographer for the day.
Overall finishing place for the four matches was 7th by a very clear margin, which leaves us safe to regroup for another season in Division 2.
Well done guys to all fourteen on the day who contributed to this final outcome – a bit nailbiting at times but it came good in the end and left this TM feeling mighty relieved!
