Pat Logan's resume of affairs at the John Nike Stadium.
The Club showed its strength in depth on 6th June by fielding six sprinters in the Southern Men's League match at Bracknell. Unfortunately we were a bit thin on the ground in the other disciplines and finished in our now customary last position, contesting only 6 events.
The match, which clashed with the BAL fixture in Cardiff, was never going to attract a large contingent and the wet and windy weather no doubt persuaded many to stay indoors to watch the Lions tour match, the England World Cup match and the Epsom Derby.
Jason Bernard certainly does not regret missing this sports fest. He managed to crack 52 seconds for the 400m for the first time this summer, winning his race in a dip finish in 51.7secs.
Andre Nembhard and Victor Nwagbara gave the team a double in the 200m and Victor repeated the same feat with Tom Butcher in the 100m (11.3 and 11.5). In the sprinting non-scorers, Andre posted 11.4 in the 100m, Pat Logan ran 12.4 and Draco Mkpa ran a 12.2/24.2 sprint double.
Rob Smith made a habit of pulling out big throws in the final round of his competitions. This pulled him up from third to second in the Hammer (37.49m) and also gave him second in the Shot (10.74m).
The damp afternoon was perhaps better suited for the distance runners where Peter Wilkins came 7th in a large field of 5,000m runners with a time of 18:53.8.
Match result - Bracknell 109.5/SLH 87.5/Eastbourne 86/K&P 32 and overall K&P are 14th of the 16 teams. Full results will be on the NB at K,when available.
