On a scorching Berkshire evening, there was a refreshingly-solid look about the Mens turnout which enabled them to take the match from SMR(54 to 50),though it was tight as the other 3 clubs in the division were very thin on the 'superb' ground at The College. Our Women suffered transportation problems, and only 3 were present. Full results from hosts,British Airways, now on this site.
Matt Field opened proceedings with a nippy PB 14.8 win over 2 Uni. colleagues and then took the HJ at 1.85. Tom Butcher won the 100 match race(11.3),with David Cook(11.1),Victor Nwagbara(11.4) & Draco Mkpa (11.7) in support, whilst Victor took the match 200(22.8).
Humphrey Waddington eased back into running, but not jumping yet,and with a late charge got 2nd over 400(54.9),following a valuable pedestrian points scoring routine at 800. M45 Mike May(sb 67.3) & U20 Dida Alsaffar(pb 61.0) were in support over the one lap. At 1500,Surrey M40 Champion Andy Robinson(4.23.3) generously took on the pace to help George Corcoran, and was instrumental in a new PB(4.19.2) for the improving U17.At 3000,the redoubtable Peter Wilkins made the trek by public transport via SWT Datchet to boost our points tally and a quartet of Chris Hall,Dida Alsaffar,Humphrey Waddington & Victor Nwagbara took the 4 x 200.
In the other field events, newcomer & Cantab Andy Wheble proved a find, throwing around 40m for both Hammer & Discus, ahead of his BAL debut three days later.Sprinter/jumper Chris Hall tripled a PB of 12.92,ahead again of an emergency call for the same BAL.
For the ladies, who were 3rd on the night,Clare McLeish ran 14.1/29.2,Tash Cook ran a pb 400 at 69.3 and Liz Richardson was pleased with her 6.09.2 over 1500. Sadly, our challenge to regain the Divisional Womens Plate has receded.
