Matt's Report from Esher. With U17 George Corcoran sensibly running in the Senior race,as a non-scorer,there were no K&P contestants in the YA race.
Surrey League Division Two- Match One: West End Common, Esher- Saturday 10th October 2009
This past Saturday saw the first Surrey League match at West End Common, Esher. Although the conditions were a lot less muddy than on previous trips to the common, we were still faced with the usual challenges that you get with this traditional Cross Country course- including some quite steep hilly sections to climb and descend, and an assortment of roots, branches and nettles to avoid!
Craig Price continued his excellent form coming in first for the team in a time of 29:13, and placing an impressive 13th. He was closely followed by Andy Arbour (19th) who was slighly hampered by a fall whilst negiotiating the aforementioned tricky course conditions.Mike Maranzano was the other lead scorer for the club placing 30th in another good run.
U17 runner George Corcoran was next in in 41st place. Unfortunately as an U17 George could not score for the team, but an excellent and encouraging run nonetheless.
Ant Budarkiewicz was then fourth scorer for the team in 45th place, followed by Matt Hyett in 52nd and Michael Huntley in 60th. U20 Tom Ratcliff again ran well, and closely followed Michael in 64th.
Peter Wilkins and Steve Wright were the next runners home finishing in 89th and 97th place respectively, followed by another good run from Bob McDonough. Ray Allen, a late starting Richard Mathie, Graham Huntley, Geoff Reed, Dave Gibbons and David Barrington all ably completed the K&P line up.
A good day all in all with a decent turnout- well done. In the end we finished 7th out of 9 teams which is a solid result, but one to build on in the future league matches.
The next Surrey League match is on 14th November at new venue Denbies Vineyard at Dorking - hope to see you there for the next stage! Prior to that we have the Bank of England match at Roehampton Gate at Richmond Park on 24th October and the Club 7 on 7th November.
