It was another exciting day of competition on Saturday at the Lily B League final where lightning did indeed strike twice as the meet was delayed again by over 40 minutes due to torrential downpours, thunder and lighting!
Luckily this time the meet was not cancelled and events continued, however the delay was difficult for the athletes with the events not going off at their rescheduled times meaning some athletes had no time to warm up before their event while some from other clubs missed their events completely! A big shout out to Alana, Amber, Eliza and Phoebe who went straight into their events (the 1500m, 200m, 800m and 800m respectively) with no warm up due to the reschedule yet still managed to score big points for the team.
The U11 athletes had a very strong day of competition with Sophia winning the LJ with 3.46m and winning her 75m heat in a new PB of 11.4. Darcey was hot on her heels also setting a big PB of 12.0. In the 600m Shiloh led the race off at a fierce pace and finished strongly to come 3rd overall with a new PB of 2.10. Darcey and Louisa also set new PBs of 2.17 and 2.19 – a brilliant result for them all! Then they all came together for their first competitive 4x100m relay where they performed some slick baton changes to come 2nd – a great team effort!
For the older athletes Katie won the U15 100m in 12.8 and set new PBs in the shot and HJ. There were also PBs in the 100m for Polly, Izzy, Bella, Saran and Carmen. Despite slightly tweaking her quad in the 100m, Carmen then went on to win the U17 HJ in 1.55m and U17 LJ, setting a new PB of 4.52m! Nicole won the U13 HJ in a PB equalling 1.45m and was 3rd in the U13 LJ, while Tia was 1st in the U15 LJ. Tia also maintained her unbeaten run in the Lily B 300m, destroying the field with a 4 second gap between her and 2nd place. In the U13 javelin Iris threw over 15m to top the K&P U13 rankings while Alana won the B string with a 13.67m effort! Iris also won the U13 discus. Ella won the U17 800m by 10 seconds while in the U15 800m, Elizabeth was 3rd.
Overall there were lots of strong performances (unfortunately too many to mention here but checkout the full results on the power of 10) and despite a depleted team Kingston came 5th in the Cup Final!
A huge thank you to Parminder and Madeleine who did a fantastic job as team managers and also to all the parents and officials who volunteered to help at the meetings. Overall it was a very successful Lily B season and we can’t wait to see you all competing next year!
