Accessibility statement

We want everyone to be able to use this website. Here is what we have done, what isn't perfect yet, and how to tell us.

Our aim

Kingston Athletic Club & Polytechnic Harriers is a volunteer-run athletics club for people of all ages and abilities. We aim for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. This statement covers this website only, not the other services we link to.

How accessible this website is

We tested every page in October 2026 with an automated checking tool, at desktop, tablet and phone widths, and we fixed what it found. We have not yet had the site tested by disabled users or by an outside specialist, so we describe it as partly checked, not fully compliant. We will update this page when that happens.

What you can expect:

  • You can use the whole site with a keyboard. There is a "Skip to content" link, and a clear outline shows where you are.
  • Text and buttons are designed to meet the contrast requirements, and the site works when you zoom in or use a phone.
  • Pages use headings, landmarks and labelled forms so screen readers can move around them.
  • Tables that are wider than the screen scroll sideways inside their own box, and you can scroll them with the keyboard.
  • The joining form uses large, clearly labelled choices, says which answers are missing, and puts focus on the first problem.
  • Nothing moves, flashes or plays automatically, and there are no time limits.

What is not yet accessible

  • Photos in news posts. They are imported from our Facebook and Instagram posts, so the pictures themselves have no separate description on this site. We describe what is happening in the words of each post, but older posts may say less, so a photo may not be fully explained.
  • PDF documents (our code of conduct, equity statement and athlete profiles). They may not work well with screen readers. If you need one in another format, ask us and we will send it within 10 working days.
  • Text over photos on a few pages could be hard to read for some people. We have darkened the images behind text and will keep checking.
  • Other organisations' services that we link to, such as Spond, England Athletics, Track Stars and our club shop, have their own accessibility. We can't change them, but we can help you with any task they are needed for.

Tell us about a problem

If you can't use part of this site, or you need information in a different format (for example large print, easy read or audio), tell us and we will help. You can:

Please say what the problem is, which page it is on, and what device or assistive technology you use if you know. We are volunteers, so we will reply within 10 working days, and we will try to be quicker. If we can't fix something straight away, we will tell you how else we can help, for example by taking your joining details over the phone.

If you are not happy with our reply

We are a voluntary organisation and are covered by the Equality Act 2010. If you are not happy with how we respond, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) (opens in a new tab).

Coming to the club in person

Our home track is Weir Archer Centre, Kingsmeadow, Kingston upon Thames KT1 3PB. If you have access needs for training or competition, such as step-free access, a quiet space or a communication aid, please tell the coaching team before your first session so we can plan.

How we keep checking

  • We re-test with the automated tool whenever the site's design or forms change.
  • We do not currently plan a check with a screen reader or with disabled users. If you find something that doesn't work for you, please tell us and we will fix it.
  • There is no single person responsible for accessibility. The volunteer committee looks after the website and acts on what people tell us.

This statement was prepared in October 2026 and will be reviewed at least once a year, and whenever the site changes significantly.
