Athletics technology, built by the club

PolyField

PolyField is measuring, results and scoreboard software designed by Kingston & Poly volunteers to make technology accessible to grass roots athletics.

Big-meeting technology, at club meetings

Accurate distances, results on screen within moments, and graphics to share afterwards used to need a big budget. We wanted our own athletes to have that experience, and we wanted other clubs to be able to as well, so our volunteers built PolyField.

It started at Kingston & Poly, the longest-established athletics club in Kingston, and we run it at our own meetings: electronic timing, a finish-line LED display, electronic wind measurement and live online results.

The PolyField suite

Four parts, one system

In the field

PolyField App

An Android app that officials use to measure throws and jumps with an electronic distance measuring (EDM) device, so field events get the same accuracy as the big meetings.

  • Calibration wizards: three steps for throws, two for horizontal jumps
  • All throws (including seated), long and triple jump, and vertical jumps
  • Manages athlete progression ("the cut") through rounds 4, 5 and 6
  • Works with electronic wind gauges
  • Stand-alone mode with local heat maps, plus a demo and training mode

Built for 8-inch screens; a rugged tablet such as the Oukitel RT3 is recommended for UK weather.

The controller

PolyField Server

Runs on a Windows or Mac computer on the venue's own network, with no internet needed. It collects every measurement from the field apps and turns it into live results.

  • Imports events from Athletics.App and OpenTrack, with live sync for OpenTrack directors and start lists from Roster Athletics
  • Logs wind readings every second (Gill WindSonic 75 or PolyField Wind Mini)
  • Results board, standings, announcer feed and para-athletics (RAZA) rankings as web pages
  • Heat maps, statistics and social-media graphics, with optional cloud publishing
  • Interface in English, French, Spanish, Dutch and Portuguese, plus a JSON API

For everyone watching

Displays

Results appear on any screen with a web browser, or on the Android display app: a "latest results" view and full live tables, so athletes, parents and spectators can see standings as they change.

Wind readings can also be shown on a supported display board (Gill countdown display or Daktronics TI-2021).

On the track

PolyField Track

Scoreboard software for FinishLynx and TimeTronics photo-finish systems. Results go up on screens around the venue as soon as the operator saves them.

  • One computer serves unlimited displays, with nothing to install on them
  • Overlays for messages, countdowns, record cards, the photo-finish image and a running clock
  • Layout Builder for your own scoreboard designs
  • Jump ruler widget for long and triple jump, and combined-events scoring on the 2026 UKA/ESAA tables
  • Athlete kiosk (search by name, club or bib), speed board and RAZA rankings

What makes it different

Designed to be easy

Simple EDM calibration

Wizards that take the mystery out of setting up an EDM, with clear pass/fail guidance on whether it is calibrated.

One-click measuring

Sight the prism and tap to measure. No need to press buttons on the EDM.

Works offline

Everything is stored locally, so the competition carries on if the internet doesn't. It uploads when you're back online.

Open to your tools

Works with Athletics.App and OpenTrack, and has a JSON API for your own integrations.

EDM total stationsPolyField Total Station (the Apeks AM02i, our flagship, with the software built in, Wi-Fi and an electronic level screen, so no tablet is needed). Other EDMs from APEKS, Hi-Target, Mato and GeoMax connect to an Android tablet by USB. Leica total stations work with the right communication plugin.

Statistics and graphics

Every throw, every jump, every athlete

  • Heat maps show where throws land in each sector, which helps with official placement and safety planning
  • Whole-competition numbers: events, athletes, attempts, foul rate and more
  • Event insights: set-up times, duration, winning, average and median marks, and success rates by height for vertical jumps
  • Wind analysis with headwind and tailwind graphs and World Athletics rules compliance
  • Share it: social-media-ready graphics, and one-click PDF export of everything
